Brandon Police Department is comprised of 38 sworn officers; 2 of whom are part of our motorcycle traffic unit. The department also has 2 School Resource Officer who are responsible for all daily activities at Brandon High School and Brandon Middle School. Our department has a very active D.A.R.E program which is taught to the 8th graders at the Middle School. We also have 2 Animal Control Officers who we will be sending to the Law Enforcement Academy to become certified Officers. Our Department also has a DUI Enforcement Officer Michael Brown. He alone has issued over 200 DUI’s in 2006 and 2007 combined. I, Chief McBroom am very proud of Officer Brown’s efforts in keeping the streets and our love ones safe in our city.

Our department over the past year has established a Special Response Team (SRT). This team consists of 8 Officers and is lead by Officer Bo Luckey. This team will respond to any high risk situations. Over the past year this team has trained very hard on different types of scenarios to insure accuracy when called out.

All new Radio and 911equipment have been installed along with up-to-date consoles for our communications room. The communications radio system has been upgraded from High-Band to 800. All patrol units have also been upgraded to 800 for complete county wide interoperability.

We have recently installed in car video camera systems in all of our patrol units. This will help in collecting evidence in crimes for court. We are still working on getting computer systems in the units, which would help with response time and also help with the amount of time Officers, are on the streets.
