My duty to this city is to enforce the ordinances and zoning regulations as put into place by the Board of Aldermen.
My responsibilities include responding to citizen complaints, no matter how large or small, by taking a description and investigating the complaint to see if it is something that could or does violate a city ordinance. If the grievance could become a violation I try to make the property owner aware of the potential ordinance violation or property maintenance issue. If the complaint or issue is already violating an ordinance, the property owner will receive a notice that identifies the violation and a request to clear the matter. My responsibilities also include follow-up investigations to ensure the situation has been corrected. If the issue has not been corrected, I am responsible for bringing the matter before the municipal judge for fine assessment. In some cases, the City must take care of the violation and my responsibility is to oversee the completion of the project.
Identifying issues by touring each neighborhood and commercial area within the City and addressing those issues with the property owners is also my responsibility as Code Enforcement Officer.
My goals are to make a positive impact on this community where I live and where my children will grow up and hopefully take roots with their own families one day. I will do this by enforcing the ordinances in a manner that speaks for the Board members. I want to enforce the ordinances consistently in a way that will leave a positive impression on the community in hopes that each member will take the time to identify their own concerns and issues. I hope that it becomes second nature to them. This will keep our community attractive and property values on the rise no matter what the economy says.
