471 Alert!

PORTION OF HIGHWAY 471 WITHOUT WATER – A City of Brandon water main on Highway 471 was damaged this afternoon by a contractor during directional boring to install fiber optic cable.  This has caused the area along Highway 471 from Tanglewood Dr. to Grants Ferry Rd. to be without water. The areas affected will include Speers Crossing Subdivision, Orchard View Subdivision, Cornerstone Subdivision, Ambiance Subdivision, and other residents and businesses located on Highway 471 from Tanglewood Dr. to Grants Ferry Rd. City of Brandon crews are on site to assess the damage and begin repairs. More information to follow. Nook Logan Baseball Camp

On July 21 – 24 Brandon Parks & Recreation, in conjunction with Nook Logan, former MLB player with the Washington Nationals, will be hosting a baseball camp at Shiloh Park July 21 – 24.  Attached is a flyer and registration form.  All camp inquiries and payments must be submitted to Nook Logan (see attached registration form).   Registration forms may also be picked up at our office on Kennedy Farm Parkway. 12 yrs and under registration will be held from 7:30am – 8:45am on field 11; camp beginning at 9am – 12pm.  13 yrs and older registration will be held from 12:45pm – 1:45pm on field 1; camp beginning at 2pm – 5pm. Morning School Lockdown – 5-12-2014

Monday, May 12, 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MORNING SCHOOL LOCKDOWN  Brandon, Mississippi – This morning, May 12, 2014, at approximately 10:08 AM a Brandon Police Officer observed a subject walking on Boyce Thompson Road in Brandon, swinging an axe above his head.  When the subject saw the officer approaching, he fled into a wooded area.  The office gave chase on foot and managed to catch the subject.  A brief struggle ensued in which the subject threw away his axe and managed to get away from the officer and run deeper into the woods.  During this struggle, the officer was assaulted by the suspect but he sustained no injuries requiring hospitalization. Due to the incidents proximity to Rouse Elementary School, the school was placed in lockdown as a safety precaution. A thorough search of the area was conducted but the suspect managed to escape capture. Brandon Police are looking for a 5’10”, African-American male wearing bluejeans and a white sleeveless shirt, the suspect had a stubble beard and appeared to be balding. The Brandon Police Department is asking that anyone having knowledge of this suspects identity to call the Brandon Police Department at 601-825-7225.
